First things first: I will be mentioning the monster hit Call Me Maybe only once in this review and that is to say that it is on Kiss. There are actually 11 other songs on the album. Shock.

Carly Rae Jepsen has loaded her second studio album with disco-pop songs about crushes and heartbreaks. This Kiss is a classic 1980s disco track that's been modernised, but keeps the essential keyboard-synth sounds that make it infectious. She slows things down a bit at the start of the empowering track Tonight I'm Getting Over You before pumping it up; unfortunately the heavy beats sound out of place.

Jepsen scores hits with two outstanding duets: on Good Time, Owl City and Jepsen are a perfect match, their shared love of electro-pop blends their vocals seamlessly. The aptly named Beautiful, with Justin Bieber, is a simple acoustic guitar number that focuses on their voices.

It's unlikely Jepsen will again enjoy the success of the song-that-shall-not-be-named, but in all, this is an enjoyable pop dozen.
