A trillion-dollar project, to find "our maker" and unlock the mystery of Man's existence, brings scientist lovers Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) aboard the Prometheus space craft. Others on board include Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), the power-crazed head of the project, and a robot David (Michael Fassbender, pictured).
Soon the mission begins to go haywire as the crew are infected by alien DNA and attacked by facehuggers and chestbusters. But that's what happens if you search for our Creator - you're punished, like titan Prometheus.
The film is on par with the likes of Tron: Legacy, in terms of epic special effects and overall visual tone. Prometheus was shot in 3D, but it never overpowers scenes.
Fittingly, director Ridley Scott, the man that launched the series, is in charge of the reboot/prequel. Although the films are separated by three decades, there are clear similarities between them. Scott's brushed the cobwebs off his sci-fi wand and created a masterpiece in the tradition of the original.
