The concert, held at Kitec, was opened by indie folk band Sun Eskimos' Janice Ngiam, accompanied by drummer Paul MacLean from DP. They played three original songs, including A Little Little, Witches and Gnomes and Five-Oh, before Choi came on stage shouting "Dai ga hou!"
His fans gave him a rapturous welcome. They screamed even more deafeningly when Choi started his first song, Underneath Your Love, from his new album Forever and Ever.
Before singing Rollercoaster, he asked if there were any theme parks in Hong Kong. The audience screamed "Ocean Park" and "Disneyland" and the singer joked that we would all go to Disneyland after the show!
When Choi asked, "Do you guys have any questions for me?" Many fans yelled," Are you single?" To which he replied, "Maybe... maybe not..." A girl burst out, "Can you touch my phone?" He replied, "Sure". And two girls went up to the stage and got their phones touched. "I bless your phone," he added and the audience bellowed with laughter. As he finished singing his latest hit, Missing Piece, a fan cried, "David, you're my missing piece!"
"By My Side! By My Side!" Fans shouted as Choi announced he was going to sing his last song. Sure enough, he ended his concert with By My Side.
Choi's band was also pretty outstanding, especially the keyboardist, who happily improvised when Choi talked about food in Hong Kong, playing some music to which Choi sang "I looooove dim sum ..."
At the meet and greet after the show, my heart skipped a beat when Choi said he remembered me from last June, when I met him at his mini-showcase at HMV!
Watching the concert and meeting Choi was an exceptionally joyful experience. His heart-melting songs took the audience on a magical journey of love. He happily interacted with the audience and he filled the whole auditorium with laughter, making it an unforgettable night.
