In 2029, Japan was ravaged by the Apocalypse Virus, an infectious disease that came from a meteor. The disease causes its victims to slowly crystallise; there is no cure for those already infected, but regular inoculations of a vaccine will prevent contraction of the disease.
Unable to cope with the outbreak, Japan's government asked for help from other countries, and eventually surrendered control of the country to the GHQ, a multinational military force backed by the UN.
Ten years later, Shu Ouma, an average 17-year-old student, has led a fairly uneventful life. Then he meets Inori Yuzuriha, a well known internet singer. Inori is a member of an anti-GHQ resistance group called Funeral Parlour. She has just stolen a genetic weapon from GHQ when she meets Shu, and accidentally exposes him to it. Shu bonds with it, and finds he has gained the power to extract weapons and tools known as "Voids" from underaged citizens.
Shu is forced to join the resistance who want to expose and destroy the GHQ for their brutality towards the defenceless Japanese.
Funimation Entertainment is simulcasting the series in the US and will release a DVD/Blu-Ray next year. With any luck, Shu will appear on a local TV channel soon.
