The new cartoon (not anime) series takes place several years after the defeat of the evil Prince Lotor and his father, King Zarkon. Celebrated as heroes, the Voltron team’s five robot lions go on a destructive rampage for no apparent reason. As a result, Voltron is disbanded.
After several years, the evil Lotor comes back to life and begins a new campaign for universal domination. Meanwhile, a bad sky marshall uses the armed forces of the Galaxy Alliance to do the same.
The only thing that can stop them is the Voltron Force. Helping the team are three Galaxy Alliance cadets who teach the “Old Lions” some new tricks to help defeat the enemy.
I’m old enough to remember watching the original Voltron show (both Japanese and American versions). Unfortunately this new show lacks the polish in storytelling of the original. What makes it very hard to watch is the poor animation of both the 2D characters and the 3D CGI Lions.
Voltron Force was meant to be a celebration of the original show’s 25th anniversary. Sadly this looks like a poor attempt to make an easy buck on the part of the animators and toy manufacturer Mattel.
