Hong Kong's swimmers have won a record haul of eight medals at the All China Secondary Schools Students' Games in Inner Mongolia.

The tally of one gold, three silver and four bronze medals beat their previous best of seven - one silver and six bronze - won at the Games two years ago.

On Tuesday, the team won three medals in the pool. Kent Cheung Kin-tat - gold medallist in the boys' 200m freestyle final - and Rachel Leung Ya-yuan (pictured with Kent) both won silver in their 100m freestyle finals. Heather Cheng Hei-tung claimed the bronze in the 200m backstroke - she had been tipped to win gold before her hopes ended after she slipped at the start.

Kent, the boys' team captain, lost out to rival Xiang Qian, from Shanghai, by a mere 0.08 seconds. Rachel, captain of the girls' team, said dousing her body with hot water, as part of her warm-up just before the race, helped her claim her first individual medal.
