Hong Kong girls' volleyball team face their first test tomorrow when they take on rivals from Beijing at the All China Secondary Schools Students' Games in sweltering Inner Mongolia.

The girls, accompanied by Hong Kong's soccer and basketball teams, were among the first competitors to arrive in Baotou after an exhausting day's travel. "We spent hours waiting for a transit flight at Beijing airport and got to our hotel at midnight," says Koo Yung-yung, a Form Four student at STFA Cheng Yu Tung Secondary School. "But we've had a good rest and are full of energy for our match with Beijing."

Teammate Law Ho-fung, a fourth former at Pui Ying Secondary School, says coping with the heat is tough. "Even the gym at our training venue is very warm, but it's a good chance to get used to conditions."
