Tiger Suit, a simple and refreshing album that peaked at number five on the British album chart, features a variety of styles, including rock, pop and - what Tunstall dubs - "nature techno".
Opening track Uummannaq Song draws listeners in with layered "tribal" beats and funky guitar licks that are, no doubt, far more energetic than the tiny town in Greenland after which it is named. Glamour Puss and lead single Fade Like A Shadow have a contagiously hyper vibe; you will need feet of lead to resist getting up and dancing. (Still A) Weirdo captures the singer's quirkiness.
Golden Frames is one of the few bluesy, folky tracks on the album, even though Tunstall first made her name with this sort of sound. The guitar-heavy song, which is poetically vague, seems to hint at alien abduction.
With its experimentation in styles and sounds, Tiger Suit is definitely a step in a new direction for Tunstall - yet will prove an album that both her established fans and new listeners will enjoy.
