Jimmy Lin Yu-chun, the 24-year-old Taiwanese pop sensation, signed a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment, a spokesperson from Sony said Thursday.

Dubbed the 'Taiwanese Susan Boyle', Lin is the latest reality TV turned singing sensation Sony has signed in the last year, following in the footsteps of Susan Boyle.

Lin shot to stardom after appearing in a Taiwanese version of American Idol singing I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston.

The video of his performance went viral on YouTube with over 6.5 million views. Watch the video here

In recent months, he was voted off the programme for a song he sang in his native Chinese.

His album is slated for release in July. It will feature music in both Chinese and English.
