Last year some of our junior reporters covered a fashion show showcasing clothing designed by HKIS student Orange Chan. This year, the fashion show could be showcasing YOUR designs.

Quintessentially is organising a design competition for secondary school students. Anyone aged 14 to 19 can participate for a chance to win an internship with an established fashion designer, brand or retail outlet.

Ten finalists will receive HK$5,000 to create their concept dress which will then be modelled at the 2010 Style 4 Schools fashion show in November. All proceeds from the evening and entrance fees to the competition will benefit the charity Room to Read.

If this sounds like your sort of challenge, here’s what you have to do.

1. Registration

You must fill in this registration form and raise HK$1,000. This will fund six months’ worth of girls’ education under Room to Read’s girls’ education programme.

Please make the cheque payable to ‘Quintessentially Foundation Ltd’ and deliver to:
Room to Read c/o Quintessentially
2/F Teda Building
87 Wing Lok Street
Sheung Wan
Hong Kong

The deadline for registration is April 30 so start raising funds now!

2. Application

Design a dress inspired by one of the Room to Read beneficiary countries: check out www.roomtoread.com to find out which those countries are.
Along with your design, you can send a process book along with your sketch, showing a summary of your creative process, from original idea to finished design. The judges are interested in any sketches, images, photos, fabrics that will generally help them get a feel for your concept!

The application must also include a 500 words essay answering the following question:
Both education and fashion have inspired people throughout the ages. In what way have they inspired you the most and how did they influence your concept?
The essay can be submitted in either English or Cantonese.

Send everything to:
Room to Read c/o Quintessentially Ltd
2/F Teda Building
87 Wing Lok Street
Sheung Wan
Hong Kong

The deadline for application is May 31.
