HONG KONG EXAMINER

The Hong Kong Examiner is new free magazine that you can pick up in shops, restaurants and coffee shops. It contains local news, listings and advertisements. Jenny works in the listings department. She takes details of events and happenings that people phone in to have listed in the magazine. Listen to these four phone calls and then fill in the information sheet for each event.

Question 1

Caller 1: Good morning. Am I speaking to someone who deals with listings?

Jenny: Yes, good morning. My name is Jenny. How can I help you?

Caller 1: I’d like to have a book sale at our school listed in the Hong Kong Examiner, please.

Jenny: No problem. May I take some details, please? First of all, your name?

Caller 1: Paul Leech.

Jenny: Is that L E A C H?

Caller 1: No. It’s double E in the middle.

Jenny: Thanks. L E E C H. Can I have a contact phone number, please?

Caller 1: 3428 8765

Jenny: Cool. Now what exactly is the event?

Caller 1: A book sale organised by Glen View Secondary School Parents Association.

Jenny: And when is the sale to be held?

Caller 1: Saturday, April 10th at 2 o’clock.

Jenny: At Glen View School?

Caller 1: Yes. In the main hall. Glen View School, Park Road, Shatin.

Jenny: Any additional information you’d like to be listed?

Caller 1: Yes. Can you put that refreshments will be available at the sale?

Jenny: Right. Got all that. Thanks, Mr Leech. Your listing will appear on Friday April 2nd. Thanks very much for your call.

Question 2

Caller 2: Hello. Could I speak to someone who deals with listings, please?

Jenny: Yes, good morning. My name is Jenny. How can I help?

Caller 2: I’d like to advertise our production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC in the HK Examiner, if possible.

Jenny: No problem. Can I take some details? Your full name first, please?

Caller 2: Betty Lamb.

Jenny: Is that L A M?

Caller 2: No. There’s a B at the end.

Jenny: Right. L A M B. Got that. Now, could I have a contact phone number, please?

Jenny: What exactly is the event you want us to list?

Caller 2: A musical put on by the Golden Stage Players. A production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Jenny: And when are the performances?

Caller 2: From Tuesday the 13th of April until Saturday the 17th.

Jenny: And where are performances to be held?

Caller 2: At the Shouson Theatre, Harbour Road, Wanchai. Each evening at 7.30.

Jenny: Any additional information you’d like us to put?

Caller 2: Yes. Can you put that there is a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30 and that tickets are 120 and 150 dollars and that there are concessions.

Caller 3: Good morning. Could I speak to someone about a sports event listing in HK Examiner, please?

Jenny: Yes, good morning. My name’s Jenny. How can I help you?

Caller 3: I’d like to list a basketball tournament in the paper, please.

Jenny: Right. Can I have some details, please? First of all, your full name.

Caller 3: I’m William Whitaker.

Jenny: Is that two Ts in Whittaker?

Caller 3: No. One T.

Caller 3: A basketball tournament and demonstration by the Hong Kong Throwers basketball club.

Jenny: And when is the tournament to be held?

Jenny: Any additional information you’d like me to put?

Caller 3: Yes. Three top players from China will be playing and doing demonstrations.

Caller 4: Good morning. I’d like to list a food event in the HK Examiner, please.

Jenny: Is that one N in Jenifer?

Caller 4: No. Two Ns.

Caller 4: It’s a cooking demonstration organised by TownGas.

Jenny: And when is the demonstration going to be held?

Caller 4: Monday, April 12th, at seven in the evening.

Jenny: And where is the venue?

Caller 4: In the foyer of the Robin Hotel, Nathan Road, Yau Ma Tei.

Jenny: Any additional information you’d like to be listed?

Caller 4: Yes. An Italian chef will be doing the demonstration. He will be preparing a wide range of Italian dishes. And the demonstration is free. But anyone interested must call the number I’ve given you to book a place.
