The city's theme parks offer more fun and cheer this year, writes Zoe Mak

Ocean Park and Disneyland both offer good reasons to get out of the house and enjoy a Christmas excursion this festive season.

The world's largest ice skating musical production, Spellbound on Ice, at Tai Shue Wan Plaza, is brought to Hong Kong by Ocean Park. It features 20 professional ice skaters, including United States national class champion Michael Chack and New England ladies champion Alicia Cavanaugh.

The show is choreographed by award-winning figure-skater Pasquale Camerlengo. Master of illusions, Bill Smith - who has developed illusions for world renowned maestros David Copperfield and Lance Burton - will also be on hand to bring visitors an eye-boggling show.

The spectacle is set to an original soundtrack composed by Glen Roven, four-time Emmy and Tony award-winning television and Broadway composer. Costume design for the ice-skating stars is overseen by David Svisco, chief costume designer for Cirque Du Soleil's Love. There will be four performances of Spellbound on Ice daily.

After the show, thrill-seekers can head next door for a ride in the Turbo Snow Tubing area, which has two snow slopes.

At the Magic Academy, Harry Potter wannabes can learn a few tricks, before making a wish at the Laser Christmas Wishing Wall.

At the Waterfront area, Santa Illusion Adventure presents visitors the challenge of navigating the reflection zone and spinning tunnel in search of St Nick.

At Disneyland, Mickey and Minnie are ready to share the Christmas joy with visitors this year. At It's a Small World, you can join them and wave to Santa Claus at his home in the North Pole, while celebrating the festive season with 38 popular Disney characters.

The magic of Christmas continues with Lights of Winter - a Disneyland Main Street parade, with Christmas lights amid drifting snowflakes and performers in sparkling winter spirit costumes marching to Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Gaze through the hologram viewer and watch the lights of Disneyland magically transformed into spectacular Christmas effects - everywhere from the castle to Main Street. Even the fireworks will look more magical. A 20- metre-tall Christmas tree has been set up at Town Square, while the Let It Snow Christmas parade will weave its way through an icy Main Street as in previous years

The parade features hundreds of costumed dancers performing in a glittering procession - be prepared to get wet as snowflakes drift and fall.

'A Sparkling Christmas' at Disneyland will be on until January 3. Tickets are HK$350 for adults and HK$250 for children aged three to 11. Ocean Park's 'Christmas Sensation in Ocean' will begin this Saturday. Tickets are HK$250 for adults and HK$125 for children aged three to 11.
