The government has increased the tobacco tax so smoking does not come cheap. But my father still lights up every day - it seems there is no life for him without cigarettes.
However, he knows passive smoking is bad for our health, so he goes outside to smoke.
I hope he can give up smoking one day.

Thanks for your letter, Wing-sing. This is one of the sad facts about smoking. You have a choice whether or not to start lighting up, but many people do not have a choice to quit.
There are a number of programmes that promise to help people kick their bad habit, but many of them are unable to do so.
It is good that your father realises the harm he is doing to you and takes preventive measures.
I hope our readers learn a lesson from this and do not take up smoking.
