Denmark youth views: what would you tell world leaders at COP21 about climate change?

Young Post, and six other youth publications from around the world, asked readers to answer two questions about environmental issues. Here are their responses.

The questions we asked

1 If you could give a speech to the world leaders at COP 21, what would you say?
2 What do you usually do to help the environment?

1 I will tell them that they have to do something to help the animals that live in the oceans because the oceans get more and more polluted. And they have to explain to people that it is important that they don’t just throw trash in the ocean and on the ground. Perhaps the world could create a robot that can collect garbage from the ground?

2 I try to remember to turn off the lights when I leave my room. I also have other things that use electricity that I can turn off.

1 I will tell them that they really should try to make things better. We pollute way too much, and they should really try to reduce the pollution in the big cities.

2 I can do many small things. In school I always try to remember to turn off the light in the classroom when everybody has left. Or I turn down the heat on the radiator. I will also try to sort our garbage more at home.

1 I will tell the leaders that they should focus more on telling people not to throw so much trash on the ground and in the oceans. We have to make sure that the oceans do not just become a waste dump.

2 I have to remember to turn off the light and not to be in the shower for longer than I need to. In that way I do not use a lot of water that I do not need. We should all be better at recycling. We also need to remember that we do not have to buy new things if the old things still work.
